This scheme seeks to create a home office fit for the 21st Century that will endeavour to assist in the development of a small family run business, whilst providing a high level of sustainable technologies to minimise the carbon footprint and an increased number of habitats for surrounding wildlife.
We have aimed to achieve a design of exceptional quality and innovative nature, whilst providing an overall site layout that fully integrates the proposed home office with the site.
The pitched roof arrangement and palette of materials relate to the traditional agricultural buildings found in the surrounding area.
This approach creates a building with a form that appears to be simple in its external appearance, whilst being relevant to the surrounding context. The proportions of the openings and the application and arrangement of the traditional materials assist in creating a contemporary facility.
The east elevation is clad in profiled sheets, representing a barn in the countryside. The cladding is arranged vertically to help break up the horizontal elevation. The west elevation includes sliding glazed screens providing access out on to the terrace whilst maximising the views out over the lake towards the island and the church.
