Working with Francis Jackson Homes, we secured planning approval for 50 new homes on the Northern fringe of Olney in Buckinghamshire. The triangular site is situated between a disused railway line and the Lavendon Road.
Several constraints informed the design including existing trees, hedgerows and planting along the boundaries, as well as the visual impact upon the local context and the topography of the site.
Our design approach incorporates simple meandering road patterns, active and attractive frontages, responding to key views and vistas, quality amenity space and a range of dwelling sizes and types to reflect the local character and housing needs. The scheme includes 30% affordable housing.
Particular attention has been paid to architectural detailing, including painted timber casement windows, working chimneys and traditional window sill and head details. Coherency and contextual sympathy have been achieved through the use of a limited palette of high quality materials.
