This site, which included four large redundant agricultural buildings, is located within the Metropolitan Green Belt in the St. Albans City & District Council area. Although not located in a Conservation Area, the stie is close to a Grade II Listed farmhouse and adjacent agricultural land.
We had previously secured Prior Approval to convert the large steel frame barn on the site to three homes under Class Q.
The major planning achievement was the next application for detailed consent for the demolition of the existing agricultural buildings, replacing them with three separate homes in a traditional courtyard style arrangement, which added significant value to the site.
Plots one and two share the same house type, with minor variations to each. Plot 3 has different appearance but shares the same contemporary interpretaton of the venacular design theme. All properties include a mix of single-storey and two-storey elements.
Materials have been selected to reference the agricultural history of the site and include a mix of brick, vertical timber boarding and some vertical corrugated cladding with black metal standing seam roofs.
