This site is located within the Parish of Great Denham situated to the West of Bedford and was allocated as part of the West of Bedford expansion area, which will provide around 1,500 new homes, new education and community facilities, a new neighbourhood centre and a new country park.
This scheme is for a new Community Centre as identified within the S106 document and within the Great Denham District Centre Masterplan Document.
The new building will be home to Great Denham Parish Council and will be used for various local events. It contains two badminton courts and changing facilities, together with office, meeting, kitchen and storage spaces on the ground floor. A new library will be located on the first floor.
The design has careful reference and respect for the context, but with a clear acknowledgement of the requirements as set out within the S106 agreement and from feedback received from the Parish Council and local residents. Key factors influencing the form and scale of the development have included:
Use of the site efficiently and effectively.
Fulfillment of the brief and the provision of a building the Parish Council will be proud of.
A style and scale of building that relates well to both nearby residential and public buildings.
A building which reflects the strong design character within the area.
A building that is as efficient as possible for the end user.
The scheme has developed through a close working relationship with Great Denham Parish Council and Bedford Borough Council, and has successfully evolved from the initial outline Planning Consent to reflect the current needs of the local people and the Councils.
