Our brief for this project in Salford was to redesign and enlarge an existing extension and reorganise the internal layout of the house.
Several design constraints were taken into consideration during the design process, including the house's proximity to a listed church and its edge of settlement location.
A new wing has been added on the West side of the house, which has been designed with careful reference and respect for the context and local vernacular. The proportions are subordinate to the original house in a style that is appropriate to the local character.
The existing house offered two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor with disjointed living space on the ground floor. We have been able to increase the accommodation to provide four bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor, with large, multi-functional living spaces on the ground floor.
The scheme is in accordance with Local Planning Policy and the Central Bedfordshire Design Guide.
