Planning consent was secured for this new home in February 2022. Sitting on a beautiful mature site of 0.52 acres, this new large contemporary family home will replace an existing smaller dwelling.
Our proposals for the design considered the footprint of the new property, responding to the building line either side. This has been achieved by locating the garage to the front and arranging the outline of the property in an ‘L shape’, ensuring there is sufficient space around the house and considering the neighbouring sites.
At the point of arrival access is gained to all levels via a feature staircase with glazing, allowing natural light to flood the open entrance area. This leads to a snug at the front and to the open plan kitchen / dining and family area, which also has the option to connect with the living / cinema space via a sliding folding door. Access to the living and cinema area can also be gained off the hallway. The ground floor also has a boot and utility room which gives access to the garden and garaging.
Access to the basement level is from the feature staircase in the hallway with a glass section of roof over to provide natural light. When arriving at basement level, the space has two main functional areas accessed off a glazed lobby; leisure facilities to the south western side and entertainment to the north eastern side. The leisure area will offer a swimming pool with a gym, sauna and changing facilities, and the entertaining space will provide a bar, games area and golf simulator. Both spaces have independent access externally to a sunken patio providing outdoor space, with steps to garden level leading to the external space associated with the kitchen and dining area for eating and relaxing.
At first floor the accommodation provides a generous landing with 5 bedrooms all with en-suites. Bedrooms to the rear of the property benefit from views over the generous mature garden, whilst bedrooms to the front and the feature glazing to the landing and staircase all have outlook to the frontage of the property.
The frontage is traditional with two projecting gables in a white render finish. The front door is clearly visible and is part of a glazed wall sitting centrally between both rendered gables. At the entrance to the property is a feature aluminium canopy. The roof of the property is pitched and includes gables, with rooflights, and a grey finish to complement grey aluminium windows, rainwater goods, garage doors and trims. A brick plinth will give the design a base to sit on and again will contrast with the elevation finishes.
To the rear the finishes wrap around and continues the material palette. The feature glazing and expanse of windows and doors all with a feature plinth, gives a contemporary feel and link between the inside and outside space, all spilling out to the garden offering views to the mature landscaping and providing good surveillance of the property.
