A former sewage pumping station, this building was refurbished and extended for office use. Even the concrete tanks were cleaned and the space reused for conference, welfare and ancillary uses. The design intent was based on the theme of water (albeit clean!) and so the minimal glass extension sits over water and the building is approached by a bridge. The resulting scheme has a Japanese feel enhanced by its setting in a carefully contrived landscape. Artifacts, such as pumps and valves, have been incorporated within the scheme.
